MORMUGAO: Dumped tyres in the open at Sada create Dengue and Malaria outbreak scare among people. Locals have demanded to clear the dumped tyres and undertake anti larval measures to curtail mosquito breeding.
Goa is witnessing heavy rainfall these days. The atmosphere is conducive for the mosquitoes to breed wherever fresh stagnant water is available in the open.
The Southern taluka of Goa Canacona has over 70 Dengue cases and considering such a scenario in the neighbouring taluka, Mormugao taluka must take utmost precautions to curtail an outbreak of vector-borne diseases in its area.
Unfortunately, in Headland Sada, some people have thrown their civic sense and rules into the air and are seen dumping tires in the open, which has made it favourable for the mosquitoes to lay their eggs and breed more mosquitoes which will eventually spread Dengue, Malaria in the nearby area.
An atmosphere of fear has spread among the citizens at Sada due to the tires being dumped in the open. There has been a demand to remove these tires as there is a possibility of spreading d6engue and Malaria due to rainwater filling in these tyres.
Now to be specific big tires are dumped in the open near a house near Sri Laxminarayan Temple in Headland Sada. These tires are filled with rainwater, and the infestation of mosquitoes has increased.
The health department advises against dumping tires in the open. These tires have been lying flat for the past several days. However, due to the increase in the prevalence of mosquitoes here, the citizens have expressed fear of the spread of diseases like Malaria and Dengue. There is a demand that the health department should come to this place and spray the medicine and remove the tires.
Subhan Rao said that there is a sudden increase in mosquitoes, which tend to bite and trouble people. The tyres dumped in the open are proving dangerous for the nearby people as they may house mosquitoes which may spread vector-borne diseases.
Another woman said that there are small children and elderly people here. If anyone contracts Dengue, then it will spread quickly, and cases might increase at Sada. Health department officers should take immediate cognisance of the situation and take necessary action.
