PANAJI: Deputy Chief Minister and Tourism Minister Manohar (Babu) Azgoankar today said that he does not accept the Municipality amendment and will be putting up the demand before Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant.
“I stand by the shopkeepers and traders, we are not going to accept the amendment, will put across our demand before the CM Dr Pramod Sawant,” said Azgoankar
Azgoankar has said that as per amendment they will have to auction out the the shop after ten years and also the rent proposed is very high.
“We cannot go as per this Act and we have our own set of rules,” he added
Certain merchants today had visited Deputy CM’s Azgoankars residence over governemnt’s decision to do amendments to the Municipality Act. The shopkeepers have urged Azgoankar to look into the matter.
“The ordinance will be a death knell to the traditional Goan merchants,” said the association. Further, the members stated that under the ordinance the government has given itself the power to seal, repossess and even re-auction municipal shops.
The ordinance lays down a new procedure for regularisation of premises and also stringent punishment for subletting of municipal properties
