CANACONA: Citing Ganapati Visarjan on the day, Dy. Collector refused to grant permission to hold ‘Julus’ on the occasion of Eid Milad un Nabi on Monday, amidst objections raised by the people of Canacona.
In a communiqué addressed to the President (Ilhas Yacub Khan) of Sunni Islami Jame Masjid in response to his application requesting for permission to have Julus from the traditional route on 16th Sep 2024, Canacona Dy. Collector/SDM Madhu G Narvekar informed that the permission cannot be considered as there will be a traditional procession of Ganapati Visarjan of Chaudi to Palolem. Permission is granted for use of sound systems in Masjid for traditional festivals.
In the same order, Dy. Collector informed that on perusal of Police Inquiry report submitted by Canacona Police Inspector through Canacona Sub Divisional Police Officer, the applications for grant of permission to hold ‘Julus’ on 16th Sep 2024 cannot be considered.
It may be recalled following receipt of an application with the office of Dy. Collector (Canacona) seeking permission for holding Julus(procession) on the occasion of Eid Milad un Nabi to be celebrated on Monday (16-09-2024), some activists including a Bajrang Dal Suyyojak of Bajrang Dal, Canacona Prakhand submitted applications objecting to the grant of any permission to hold procession on Monday. The activists called for not to grant permission to hold Julus as it is not a tradition to hold Julus in Canacona and Ganapati visarjan of Sarvajanik Ganesh of Chaudi is scheduled for the day, and it could create law and order situation if permission is granted.
