PANAJI: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched a training program for Booth Level Agents (BLAs) from Bihar in anticipation of the upcoming elections.
Approximately 280 BLAs, representing 10 recognized political parties from the state, are participating in a two-day training session at the India International Institute for Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) in New Delhi.
In a first-of-its-kind initiative, Chief Election Commissioner Shri Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi, addressed the BLAs to kickstart the program.
The training focused on providing the BLAs with a comprehensive understanding of their roles, responsibilities, and the legal framework that governs their appointments.
During the session, participants were educated on the election process, including the preparation, updating, and revision of electoral rolls. BLAs, who are appointed by recognized political parties, play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy of electoral rolls in accordance with the provisions of the Representation of the People (RP) Act, 1950.
The training also covered the process for filing appeals under sections 24(a) and 24(b) of the RP Act, in the event that BLAs are dissatisfied with the final electoral rolls published.
By conducting this program, the ECI aims to enhance grassroots participation by political parties and ensure the integrity of the electoral process in Bihar.
