Mandrem: Mandrem police have rescued eight women and taken one person into custody for allegedly running a prostitution racket in the Harmal-Arambol belt of North Goa.
The action followed mounting pressure from local residents, who confronted authorities claiming that certain spa and massage centres in the area were being misused as a cover for illegal sex trade activities.
Villagers alleged that escort services were being operated openly and had earlier submitted the names of suspected individuals to senior police officials seeking intervention.
Acting on the complaints, police conducted a raid that led to the rescue of the women and the arrest of the alleged pimp.
Officials said further investigation is underway to determine the extent of the network and whether more persons are involved.
The incident has sparked renewed debate over the regulation and monitoring of some establishments in Arambol.
Local community members have urged authorities to step up enforcement measures, warning that they will escalate protests if decisive action is not taken to shut down unlawful operations.
Residents expressed concern that such activities could tarnish Arambol’s image as a family-friendly tourist destination and called for stricter vigilance to safeguard the area’s reputation.
