CANACONA: An engaging event titled ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ was organized at the Loliem-Polem Panchayat in Canacona, honouring the deep bond between nature and motherhood through this meaningful initiative.
Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar attended the function, where the Loliem-Polem Panchayat led a tree plantation drive and handed out saplings to villagers. Each participant was encouraged to plant a tree in their mother’s name, strengthening personal connections to environmental conservation.
Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, the program promotes tree planting as a heartfelt tribute to one’s mother while supporting the goal of a greener, healthier environment. Speaker Tawadkar emphasized this mission in his address, urging everyone to nurture these saplings as symbols of gratitude and responsibility.
He also spoke about ongoing development projects in the Loliem-Polem area, highlighted completed works, and praised the Panchayat team for their dedicated service and commitment to the village’s growth.
Canacona Zonal Agriculture Officer Mahendra Pagi offered practical guidance on plant care, explaining the importance of regular watering, protecting young saplings, and monitoring their growth to ensure high survival rates.
Also present at the event were Loliem-Polem Sarpanch Smt. Nisha Chari, Deputy Sarpanch Rajesh Bandekar, Panchayat members Ajay (Ajit) Loleinkar, Chandrakant Sudir, Rajesh Naik, Sachin Naik, Smt. Supriya Pagi, and Smt. Ratna Prabhu Gaonkar.
Among the other dignitaries were BJP Canacona Mandal President Prabhakar Gaonkar, General Secretary Divakar Pagi, BJP Canacona Mahila Morcha President Smt. Vinda Satarkar, OSD to Speaker Santosh Lolyekar, and many local residents who took part enthusiastically.
