Saligao: An elderly man from Maharashtra succumbed to injuries after accidentally falling from a staircase at a hotel in Pilerne, Bardez, police said on Monday.
Saligao Police registered Unnatural Death (UD) Case No. 02/2026 under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) Act, 2023, at around 9.16 am on January 26, following a wireless message received from Casualty Police, Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim.
The deceased has been identified as Dilipkumar Dighe (70), a resident of Nashik Road, Nashik, Maharashtra. Police said Dighe was admitted at GMC Bambolim under MLC Case No. 26/747 after sustaining head injuries in a fall from a staircase at a hotel located on Saipem Road, Marra, Pilerne.
During the course of enquiry, the deceased’s brother informed police that the family had come to Goa to attend a Rotary Club function and were staying at the said hotel. On January 25 at around 8.30 pm, while climbing the staircase, Dighe allegedly slipped and fell, sustaining serious head injuries. He was immediately shifted to GMC Bambolim for treatment, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Police have stated that no foul play is suspected in the incident. Further enquiry is being carried out by PSI Akshay Gaonkar.
