Velsao: An elderly man was found dead inside his residence at Pale, Velsao, Cansaulim, Mormugao, on 01 January 2026.
According to police sources, at about 7.06 pm, Verna Police received a phone call from an unknown person informing that a dead body was found in a room at Velsao. During the subsequent enquiry and spot visit, police identified the deceased as Freddy Dias (73), a resident of Velsao Pale, Cansaulim, Mormugao, who was found hanging in the bathroom of his room in a decomposed condition.
Further enquiry revealed that the deceased had been living alone for the past 30 years and was suffering from prostate cancer.
Police conducted the scene of Unnatural Death (UD) occurrence panchanama, lowered the body, and carried out the inquest panchanama. The body was later shifted to South Goa District Hospital (SGDH), Margao, for further medico-legal formalities.
A post-mortem examination was conducted by the Police Surgeon at SGDH, who certified the cause of death as “asphyxia as a result of hanging by ligature around the neck of a known cancer patient.” Thereafter, the dead body was handed over to the family members for final religious rites.
