Margao: A 73-year-old woman was found dead at her residence at Anuradha Apartments, Housing Board, Gogol, on Wednesday evening. Police have stated that the death occurred due to medical reasons.
According to police, at around 6:24 pm on December 25, 2025, a phone call was received from Gokul Ganguly, informing that a woman was found lying unresponsive on her bed at Anuradha Apartments, Gogol.
Police rushed to the spot and identified the deceased as Rekha Kavlekar (73), a resident of Anuradha Apartments, Housing Board, Gogol, Margao. The 108 ambulance staff who arrived at the scene declared her dead.
During enquiry, police recorded the statement of the deceased’s niece, Ashtami Ganguly, a resident of Gogol, Margao, who stated that the deceased was living alone and that family members were regularly providing meals and checking on her.
An inquest panchanama was conducted over the body, following which it was sent for post-mortem examination at the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH), Margao. The autopsy conducted by the Police Surgeon certified the cause of death as “bilateral lobar pneumonia in a person with hypertensive changes in the liver and kidneys.”
After completion of legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family members for final religious rites.
The enquiry in the matter was conducted by PSI Ramrai Naik of Fatorda Police Station.
