CHORAO: Goa Police have initiated an investigation after a 69-year-old woman was found dead in a swimming pool at Chorao Island in Tiswadi on Friday morning.
According to police, at around 10:13 am on October 10, 2025, a call was received from Mr. Alok Coutinho informing that a body was seen floating in a swimming pool at Chorao Island Residency, Chorao.
Following the call, LPSI Jasvita Naik, along with PSI Sanket Pokhare and police staff from Old Goa Police Station, visited the site and found the body of a female floating in the pool. With the assistance of local residents, the body was retrieved and placed at the poolside.
The deceased was later identified by her brother, Mr. Philiph Vaz (68), as Regina Perpetua Vaz (69), resident of House No. 990, Belbhat, Chorao.
Police registered a U.D. (Unnatural Death) case vide Old Goa P.S. UD No. 60/2025 under Section 194 of the BNSS.
During inquiry, local residents and family members informed that the deceased was mentally ill, under treatment at the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB), Bambolim, and had poor eyesight following cataract surgery.
PSI Sanket Pokhare conducted the scene of occurrence panchanama in the presence of witnesses and preserved water samples for diatom study, while LPSI Jasvita Naik conducted the inquest panchanama.
The body was shifted to GMC Morgue, Bambolim, for medico-legal examination and further formalities.
Further inquiry is being carried out by LPSI Jasvita Naik of Old Goa Police Station.
