Mapusa:Mapusa Police have registered a case under serious provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 after an elderly woman was assaulted during a failed chain-snatching attempt.
The incident occurred early morning on July 18, 2025, at around 7:45 AM in front of Geeta Sadan Bangala, Shelpem, Dhuler, Mapusa.
The victim, 62-year-old Geeta Naresh Shirodkar, a resident of the same locality, was on her morning walk when two unidentified men on a black motorcycle attempted to snatch her gold mangalsutra. In the process, the accused—one riding and the other as pillion—assaulted her, inflicting bodily injuries.
Based on her complaint, an FIR was registered at 12:43 PM under Mapusa PS Crime No. 107/2025 for offences punishable under Sections 115(2), 304, and 62 read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Police have initiated arrest procedures and further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend the culprits.
