MARGAO: An 80-year-old woman from Telaulim, Navelim, succumbed to burn injuries while undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) Bambolim.
According to police information received from the Casualty Police of GMC at around 3:50 am on 24/02/2026, the deceased was identified as Saudina Terezinha Cruzinha Fernandes (80), a resident of Telaulim, Navelim. She had been admitted to the hospital following burn injuries sustained at her residence.
During enquiry with family members, it was revealed that on 16/02/2026, while she was in the kitchen, hot water accidentally fell on her legs. Initially, she was treated at home and later shifted to the District Hospital, Margao, on 21/02/2026. On 23/02/2026, she was referred to Goa Medical College and Hospital for further treatment, where she expired while undergoing medical care.
Police conducted an inquest panchanama over the body, and the Police Surgeon carried out the autopsy. The cause of death was certified as “Aspiration pneumonitis associated with septicemia consequent to deep burns of bilateral feet.”
The body was subsequently handed over to family members for final religious rites.
