MAPUSA: A tragic incident has left 70-year-old Premavati Nyaneshwar Vernekar homeless after two days of incessant rainfall caused the collapse of a wall in her 50 to 60-year-old mud house. Premavati, who has been living alone in the house since the passing of her husband, now faces a desperate situation with no roof over her head and limited financial means.
Upon learning of the incident, members of the Siolim-Marna Panchayat swiftly came to her aid. Siolim Sarpanch Sandesh Hadfadkar, Deputy Sarpanch Shobhavati Chodankar, Panch member Sharmila Vernekar, Ex-Panch member Vignesh Chodankar, and local leader Amit Morajkar, accompanied by the local Talathi, visited Premavati’s damaged house to assess the situation.
The officials have assured Premavati that her house will be rebuilt before the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival, a gesture that brings hope to the elderly woman during this challenging time. The quick response by the local panchayat has been appreciated by the community, and they are now working to ensure that Premavati is provided with timely assistance to restore her home and stability.
Premavati, who relies solely on a meagre ₹2000 pension, has no family to support her, making the loss of her home all the more devastating. The Panchayat’s commitment to rebuilding her house offers a ray of hope in this difficult time.
