PONDA: Now all eyes are on PMC Election as Ponda Municipal Council’s (PMC) five years tenure ends on May 20, and soon the Election for a new Council may be declared.
After that, many Old and new aspirant’s faces who want to try their luck, including former and sitting councillors, are trying to meet voters and canvass the wards and also started building their Political panels.
The PMC comprises 15 Wards, and some wards with additional new voters will be restructured. The new Voters list will come out in the next four days.
Presently, the aspirants focus onward reservations, including ladies and OBCS.
The PMC Election is also prestigious for Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik to keep a hold on PMC, similarly for MGP and Congress. Presently BJP backed Council led by Chairperson Ritesh Naik is ruling Council. The upcoming PMC election appears prestigious for BJP, Congress and MGP.
Last 2022 assembly election results show there is not much difference among votes secured by all the three main parties, with BJP winning the Ponda seat by a thin margin, while MGP finished second and Congress at third place. All three main parties are expected to get a hold of PMC by winning majority seats.
Back in 2018, when the Council election was held, the panel headed by the MGP-backed panel Rising Ponda had won 7 seats, BJP had won 5 hearts, and Congress had won 3 seats.
Now the Political situation is changed. Some of the MGP and Congress-backed councillors had joined BJP. During the past five years, MGP and BJP-backed councillors enjoyed the Chairperson Post.
Since MGP is in an alliance government, it is interesting whether MGP and BJP would jointly contest the election or field their panels independently. Some sitting and former Councillors have also expressed willingness to contest the election again.
