CANACONA: Minister for Arts and Culture Ramesh Tawadkar has assured that within the next two years, Canacona will be free of electricity, water supply and road-related issues.
Speaking at the inauguration of the beautified heritage Peepal tree with a newly constructed pedd at Ponsulem, Tawadkar said, “Once these basic amenities are secured, we will work to ensure that no one in Canacona is left disappointed or neglected. Our next goal will be to revive agriculture by bringing the fallow paddy fields in Chaudi’s ‘ker’ area back under cultivation. We are committed to making Canacona prosperous.”
As part of the beautification initiative, Canacona Municipal Council developed the pedd at the heritage tree site. On the occasion, several personalities from the locality—including Chairperson Sara Shamba Desai, councillors Narcisco (Nadin) Fernandes, Amita Pagi, Ramakant Naik Gaonkar, former BJP Mandal president Vishal Desai, ex-CMC chairperson Mahadev Desai, retired DySP Ravindra Desai, firefighter Tulshidas Desai, retired soldier Chandrakant Desai, retired teacher Amar Desai, and Horticulture Corporation MD Chandrahas Desai—were felicitated by Tawadkar for their contributions to society.
Councilor Ramakant Naik Gaonkar recalled that the Peepal tree was once the meeting point where village elders would take important decisions. Over the years, it had lost its charm, and the pedd had deteriorated, making the recent renovation and beautification significant for the community.
Vishal Desai highlighted that development works worth nearly ₹11 crore have been undertaken in the Ponsulem ward alone through various departments. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by councillor Narcisco Fernandes.
