Panaji: In a significant milestone marking the 10th anniversary of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme, the Governor of Goa, Shri. P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, emphasized the pivotal role women play in fostering social and economic growth.
Speaking at an event organized by the Department of Women and Child Development at Raj Bhavan, Dona Paula, Governor Pillai highlighted the scheme’s nationwide impact.
The BBBP initiative was launched by Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi aims to prevent gender-biased sex-selective elimination, improve the sex ratio at birth, and increase girls’ enrollment in higher secondary education.
The Minister for Women and Child Development, Shri. Vishwajit Rane, underscored the need to shift societal attitudes towards the girl child, emphasizing equality and respect. He commended the Prime Minister for initiating BBBP and noted the state government’s efforts to support women in achieving their career aspirations. Secretary Arun Kumar Mishra detailed various government initiatives, including health treatments to improve nutritional status and medical assistance for women facing fertility challenges.
The event also recognized the achievements of daughters of Anganwadi workers, featuring a fashion show and dance performances that celebrated women’s empowerment. Collector North Goa, Dr. Sneha Gitte, stressed the importance of family support for girls to pursue their dreams.
