New Delhi: The Union government has reaffirmed that guaranteeing reliable and affordable energy for the nation is its highest priority, even as international economic conditions undergo rapid change. Speaking in Parliament, Union Minister Piyush Goyal stated that the needs of India’s vast population remain at the centre of policy decisions and that efforts are being made to ensure long term stability in the energy sector.
The minister explained that the government is carefully diversifying its energy sources in response to evolving global circumstances. According to him, this approach is essential to protect the country from external uncertainties and to meet the growing demand created by economic expansion and rising living standards. He stressed that every decision taken in this area is guided by the objective of securing uninterrupted supply for citizens and industries.
During the discussion on trade relations, Goyal also addressed concerns related to sensitive domestic sectors. He assured members that areas such as fertilisers, agriculture and dairy have been fully safeguarded while engaging with international partners. Protecting the livelihood of farmers and dairy producers continues to be a key element of the national strategy, he added.
The minister pointed out that India and its global partners are working together while respecting each other’s economic priorities. He said the country has been able to defend its core interests in negotiations and has ensured that no agreement compromises the welfare of rural communities. The leadership has consistently placed agriculture and dairy at the heart of development policies, he noted.
He further highlighted that several segments of the economy are expected to benefit from expanding trade opportunities. Small and medium enterprises, engineering units, textiles, gems and jewellery, leather products and marine goods are likely to see new avenues for growth. These sectors generate large scale employment and are crucial for balanced economic progress.
The government believes that a strong energy framework combined with protection of domestic industries will support sustainable development. By maintaining a careful balance between global engagement and national priorities, the country aims to strengthen self reliance while opening doors for innovation and investment. The minister expressed confidence that these measures will secure a prosperous future for both producers and consumers across India.
