New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday held a conversation with Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, focusing on the evolving security situation in West Asia and reaffirming India’s commitment to regional stability.
During the interaction, the two leaders exchanged views on the growing tensions across the region and discussed recent developments that have raised concerns about security and geopolitical stability. The discussion comes at a time when the Gulf region is witnessing increased uncertainty due to the wider regional conflict.
The Prime Minister reiterated India’s firm stance condemning attacks that undermine Kuwait’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The remarks come amid escalating tensions as Iran has reportedly carried out missile and drone strikes targeting military facilities and key infrastructure in several Gulf countries. These incidents have heightened security alerts across the region.
In response to the repeated threats, Kuwait has activated its air defence systems, with authorities responding to alerts linked to areas connected with military operations and logistics networks. The developments have intensified concerns over the possibility of the conflict spreading further across the Gulf.
A major point of discussion between the leaders was the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz. The narrow maritime corridor remains one of the most vital global energy routes, carrying a substantial portion of the world’s oil supply. Rising tensions in the area have raised fears of potential disruptions that could impact global energy markets and trade flows.
India underlined the importance of keeping this route open and secure, stressing that uninterrupted navigation through the strait is critical for energy security and global economic stability.
Both leaders also agreed that continued diplomatic engagement is essential to maintain peace and stability in the region. They emphasised the need for dialogue and cooperation to address emerging challenges and prevent further escalation.
The Prime Minister also expressed appreciation to Kuwait’s leadership for ensuring the safety and welfare of the large Indian community living in the country, acknowledging their continued support and cooperation.
