PANAJI: Tourism Minister Babu Azgaonkar said that Entertainment and Animation Village in Mandrem is still at a conceptualization stage, and GTDC is currently developing a master plan for the entire area and conducting feasibility studies.
“The Project is still at a conceptualization stage, and GTDC is currently undertaking the development of a master plan for the entire area along with conducting feasibility studies. Any capital requirements and sources of funds to meet the same will be identified after completing the master plan and feasibility study,” said Azgoankar.
He further said that the development of such an Animation and Entertainment Village is beneficial for boosting the entertainment and film industry in the State and serves as a popular tourist spot and recreation centre.
“The project is expected to provide the following benefits to the public/locals as it will Boost local talent to generate animation/ entertainment content. Revenue to State by Economic activities stimulated by entertainment events, thereby increasing revenues to the State Government. Creation of employment for locals apart from creating a talent pool. Boost in high-value Tourism activities,” he added.
As per Tourism Master Plan and Policy 2020, Babu said that Pernem Taluka in Goa is best suited for developing ultra-luxury and eco-beach concepts featuring a blend of music, art, and fashion.
“Goa is often referred to as “Festival Capital of India” as it attracts many tourists, round the year, for music, arts, handicrafts/folk festivals, and fashion events. Due to lack of a permanent venue for organizing such kind of events, it often creates hassles for all the parties involved including tourists, event organizers and Government for issuance of NOCs, proper administration, and management,” he added.
The minister said that this type of development is necessary for the State for creating premium tourism infrastructure for attracting foreign tourists and high-end clientele.
