PANAJI: Former Minister Pandurang Madkaikar, charged the state government with pervasive corruption, saying that ministers are more concerned with “counting money” than with solving the problems the state faces.
His comments followed a meeting with B L Santosh, the national general secretary of the BJP, who is presently in Goa.
Madkaikar referred to the state of affairs as “rampant loot,” as opposed to simple corruption. “It’s loot, a lot of loot, not corruption. Looting is taking place in the name of corruption. Another example of this theft is the cash-for-government jobs scam. Following his discussion with Santosh, he told the reporters, “Every Minister is busy grabbing money.”
He continued by narrating a purportedly personal incident in which he was required to pay a minister between Rs 15 and Rs 20 lakh in order to perform ordinary tasks.
“I paid one of the ministers between Rs 15 and Rs 20 lakh for a minor work last week. When I decide to quit the party, I’ll name the minister,” he declared.
In addition, Madkaikar disclosed that when Santosh asked not to run in the 2022 Assembly elections, he met with him to discuss his prospects inside the party.
“No one is doing anything, and I think the public will send home at least half of the current MLAs. In the upcoming elections, at least 50% of new MLAs will be elected,” he continued.
A possible cabinet overhaul has been discussed for a while, and Santosh’s trip to Goa has sparked new rumors about it.
Santosh met with MLAs and State party leaders during his visit to evaluate the party’s organizational efforts. He also spoke with MLAs who backed the existing administration.
