COLVA: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has intensified its preparations for the upcoming Zilla Panchayat elections with former Colva Sarpanch Anthony Leo Fernandes joining the party on Tuesday.
Fernandes was welcomed into the party fold by AAP MLA Capt. Venzy Viegas, who placed the party scarf around his neck during a joining ceremony held in Colva. The event was attended by Colva Sarpanch Bai Treza, Deputy Sarpanch Bab Dalan, former sarpanchas Johnson and Bai Suzie, former deputy Tendrila, Panch members Menino and Domrod, and several local supporters.
Speaking at the function, Capt. Viegas commended Fernandes for his dedicated public service and community involvement, noting that he had also served three consecutive terms as Executive Committee Member of the Goa Football Association. The MLA said Fernandes’ entry would further strengthen AAP’s organisational presence in the Colva Zilla Panchayat block.
In his remarks, Fernandes recalled his early years in public life, saying, “When I became Sarpanch for the first time in 2008, I was new to politics. Capt. Venzy Viegas guided me through Panchayat matters and helped me build confidence. With the support of the people here, we will take AAP’s work forward with full strength.”
With several grassroots leaders and residents aligning with the party, AAP aims to contest the Zilla Panchayat elections with renewed energy and determination.
