New Delhi: India strongly rebuked Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council on Friday, highlighting decades of cross-border terrorism sponsored by Islamabad, including the 26/11 Mumbai attacks and the recent mass killing of tourists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam.
India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, made the remarks during an Open Debate on the theme “Addressing emerging threats, ensuring safety of civilians, humanitarian and UN personnel, journalists and media professionals, and enhancing accountability mechanisms,” under the agenda item “Protection of Civilians in Armed Conflict.”
Responding to allegations made by the Pakistani representative, Ambassador Harish said:
“India has experienced decades of Pakistan-sponsored terrorist attacks across our borders—from the horrific 26/11 Mumbai attacks to the barbaric mass murder of innocent tourists in Pahalgam in April 2025.”
He emphasized that the primary victims of these terror attacks have been civilians, and accused Pakistan of deliberately targeting India’s progress, prosperity, and morale.
“For a country like Pakistan, which has consistently harbored and exported terror, to speak on the protection of civilians is not only hypocritical—it is an affront to the international community,” Harish stated.
Tensions between India and Pakistan sharply escalated following the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. In response, India launched precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in the early hours of May 7.
Pakistan retaliated with a series of attempted strikes on Indian military bases on May 8, 9, and 10, which were strongly countered by Indian forces.
The cycle of military escalation came to a halt after high-level military talks between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both nations, resulting in an agreement to cease further hostilities on May 10.
India’s message at the UN was unequivocal: the international community must recognize and hold accountable nations that use terrorism as a state policy, especially when innocent civilian lives are at stake.
