MAPUSA: Goa police Crime Branch unit have confiscated a huge shipment of counterfeit Apple devices valued at Rs 1 crore.
In addition to seizing counterfeit Apple devices from multiple stores in Mapusa, the Goa police also arrested three suspects in connection with the unlawful activity.
The accused were identified by a top police officer as Rajasthani citizens Dashrath Puri, Karmi Bharti, and Arjun Kumar. In order to identify further participants in the fraud game, the police are questioning the three accused. According to Goa police officials, a raid at the accused’s stores resulted in their arrest on March 27.
A variety of fake Apple devices, such as back panels, batteries, flashlights, cameras, earbuds, power adapters, and data cables, were found by the police.
A police official said the raid was carried out in cooperation with Apple Inc. employees. After receiving a tip regarding the sale of fake Apple products in Mapusa, the police opened an investigation. The cops found a lot of counterfeit Apple products during the operation, which was conducted at many local stores. The spokesman claimed that although the products were being marketed as authentic Apple goods, they were of lower quality.
The Copyright Act led to the arrest and filing of charges against the three defendants, Arjun Kumar, Karmi Bharti, and Dashrath Puri. The police spokeswoman said the accused had been selling fake Apple items for a long time and had profited handsomely from the sales. A municipal court heard the accused’s case and remanded them in police custody. Under the Copyright Act, the police have filed a case and are continuing their investigation. The authorities would also look into the distribution network and the origin of the fake goods, the spokeswoman said. If proven guilty, the accused may be subject to harsh punishments, such as fines and incarceration.
