CALANGUTE: Seven people were arrested by the Cyber Crime Cell for operating a phony foreign call center and posing as loan agents in order to deceive residents of the United States.
According to information provided by Cyber Crime SP Rahul Gupta, the imposters, who were from Rajasthan, Gujarat, Nagaland, and Assam, tricked US citizens into sending money transfers.
The accused ran their business out of a Calangute hotel. They fooled innocent Americans by pretending to be representatives of loan companies, Amazon employees, bank workers, law enforcement officers, and government representatives. Our team used technical surveillance to identify the fake call center in Calangute and took action against it,” he stated.
Four laptops, one TP-Link router, and one D-Link switch were found by the police during the raid; these items will all be sent for cyber forensic analysis. In an effort to help catch these criminals,
Gupta said, “Investigations have revealed that the accused made voice calls to US citizens, convincing them to transfer money under false pretenses.” He also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the local police or nearby Cyber Police Stations.
