PONDA: Two people have been taken into custody by Ponda Police in relation to different cases of cheating involving the fraudulent offer of government jobs.
Prakash Mukund Rane was arrested in the first case at Sindhunagar Colony, Curti. Together with three other people, Santosh Surya Govenkar, Pooja Sitaram Khorjuvekar, and Sushma Gawas, he is charged with defrauding Usha, also known as Shital Shridhar Ashwekar, of Rs 40 lakh from Ashwem-Mandrem.
Rane allegedly used the prospect of government positions to entice the complainants to TNK in Patto, Panjim, between 2021 and 2022, according to the complaint lodged at Ponda Police Station. Rather, he failed to return the money after embezzling it for his own benefit.
The case has been forwarded to Panjim police for additional investigation after being recorded under sections 403 and 420 of the IPC.
In a different case, Haveli-Curti police policeman Sagar Suresh Naik was detained for allegedly defrauding Trupti Rudresh Prabhu of Rs 15 lakh while posing as a government school teacher. According to the lawsuit, which was submitted on September 2 of this year, Prabhu was scammed of the sum in October 2022 both in cash and online. Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code is the charge against Naik.
According to officials, Naik was deemed a deserter from active duty on August 7 of this year. He was sent multiple notices under section 35 of the BNSS, but he never showed up at the police station. Naik had requested anticipatory bail, but the court has not yet granted it.
In addition, he faces charges in a prior case that was filed at Ponda Police Station and is presently for trial.
In a related scam, Mardol police also nabbed Pooja Naik for defrauding a citizen from Curti out of Rs 14 lakh. The investigation resulted in the seizure of five expensive vehicles from her.
