Panaji: Chairman of Goa Rehabilitation Board and Cumbarhua MLA Rajesh Faldessai on Thursday inaugurated the construction of a community toilet at Saklebhat village panchayat Carambolim and laid the foundation stone for various development works in Carambolim panchayat under the XV Finance Commission.
Those present were of St. Lawrence Zilla panchayat member Dhaku Madkaikar, Cumbarjua Sarpanch Kusta Salelkar, Deputy Sarpanch Reshma Murgaonkar, panch member Adv Bhuwaneshwar Fatarpekar, ex-panch member Chandani Fatarpekar, and other dignitaries and villagers.
Faldessai urged people to maintain cleanliness, especially at the new toilet premises. He said that earlier, people had to travel far off for toilet facility, but now with these 5 toilets they will benefit immensely.
“When we talk of Swacch Bharat, we need toilets, and this is very important. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant are emphasising on this to ensure cleanliness as it is more important than food. I urge everyone to maintain cleanliness at this place. If required, hire a person to manage it, I will pay his salary. Otherwise, it will turn dirty. The new toilet will benefit many people. We have also got 4 rickshaws to gather plastic on the road at my own cost. This is to ensure we maintain cleanliness in our constituency,” he said.
“I also thank Deccan Fine Chemicals for giving us funds for the project. They have never turned down our requests for any assistance. If there are any other works to be taken up, I urge the locals to inform us, we will approach companies to take it up under CSR. The BJP government is taking up many works as well. We will also build a drainage that is required in Carambolim after the code of conduct is lifted. I will meet the panchayat officials regarding this project,” he said.
“We have started work on renovating the Carambolim panchayat hall, and this AC hall can host weddings of locals, and other functions. If you have any other beautification works to be taken up, you can identify the area. We will take it up. If there are any difficulties, please bring it to my notice. I assure to help you,” he said.
