PONDA: A tragic road accident at Bethora, Ponda on the afternoon of July 10 resulted in the death of two individuals and left two others grievously injured.
The collision occurred opposite HKGN Granites and Marble , Bethora, around 2:49 PM, when two scooters collided head-on due to alleged rash and wrong-side driving.
According to a complaint filed by Head Constable Ramdas Gawas (HC 4579) of Ponda Police Station, the accused rider, Aditya Dessai, a resident of Bethora, Ponda, was riding his Vespa scooter from Amigoes Junction towards Bethora in a rash and negligent manner, allegedly in the wrong lane, thereby endangering human life.
As he approached the area opposite HKGN Marbles, his scooter reportedly crashed into an oncoming Ola scooter.
The impact was fatal: Isha Gawas, the rider of the Ola scooter and a resident of Ravan, Sattari, succumbed to her injuries on the spot.
Aditya Dessai, the accused Vespa rider, also died due to severe injuries sustained in the crash.
Two pillion riders, Aditi Manjrekar of Parye, Sattari (riding with Isha) and Yogesh Patilbof Ponda (riding with Aditya), suffered grievous injuries and were rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.
Police conducted an inquest panchanama, and the deceased were sent for post-mortem examination, where the police surgeon confirmed the cause of death for both as “damage to head, chest and abdomen consequent to blunt force impact.”
The bodies have since been handed over to the families for final rites.
