PORVORIM: A 68-year-old man succumbed to injuries sustained in a road accident involving a tipper truck and an electric scooter in Porvorim. The incident occurred on the morning of May 29, 2025, near the United Benetton Showroom on Chowgam Road.
According to the complaint filed by Assistant Sub-Inspector Jairam Haldankar of Porvorim Police Station, the accident took place at around 10:18 AM when the driver of a Tata Tipper truck, bearing registration number MH-07-AT-6552, allegedly drove the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner. While attempting to turn onto Chowgam Road, the truck struck an electric scooter that was proceeding in the same direction.
The rider of the scooter, identified as Shri Gopal Prasad, a 68-year-old resident of Bastora, Mapusa and originally from Vrindaban, Mathura (Uttar Pradesh), fell on the road due to the impact and sustained critical injuries. He was immediately rushed to Goa Medical College Hospital in Bambolim, where he later died during treatment on May 31.
The driver of the tipper truck has been identified as Ajay Nerurkar, son of Sunil Nerurkar, a resident of Kudal in Sindhudurg district, Maharashtra. The case has been registered under Cr. No. 50/2025, U/s 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023. PSI Pratik Tulaskar has been assigned as the Investigating Officer. The accident has also been recorded under MV Accident No. 63/2025 dated May 29, 2025.
Porvorim Police continue to investigate the case to determine further legal action.
