PANAJI: The 2025–26 season of the Indian Super League begins with high anticipation, and much of the spotlight in the opening round will be on FC Goa as they launch their campaign at the PJN Stadium in Fatorda against ISL newcomers Inter Kashi.
Fresh from lifting the AIFF Super Cup in December at the same venue, FC Goa return to familiar territory with confidence and momentum on their side. Having already gained competitive match practice through their participation in the AFC Champions League Two, the Gaurs appear better acclimatised than many of their rivals heading into the new season.
Head coach Manolo Márquez has overseen a disciplined and cohesive pre season, emphasising unity and tactical preparation. He described the squad as focused and well bonded, while cautioning that the opening fixture will demand full concentration. Despite facing a promoted side, Márquez acknowledged that Inter Kashi possess experience and quality, particularly under the guidance of seasoned coach Antonio Habas.
FC Goa’s strength lies in their balanced squad, built around a solid Indian core complemented by experienced foreign players. Their recent silverware has reinforced belief within the camp, and expectations will be high among home supporters eager to see the team carry forward last season’s success.
The match in Fatorda follows the league opener between Mohun Bagan Super Giant and Kerala Blasters FC in Kolkata, but Goa’s clash carries its own intrigue. Inter Kashi, promoted after winning the I League title, will aim to make a statement in their debut appearance.
As the ISL returns with its 14 clubs competing in a single leg round robin format, FC Goa will be determined to convert early momentum into a strong push for the title. With home advantage and recent success behind them, the Gaurs have a clear opportunity to begin their campaign on a commanding note.
