Panaji: Indian Super League side FC Goa return to continental action tonight as they host Oman’s Al Seeb Club in the preliminary stage of the AFC Champions League Two at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Goa. The high-stakes knockout clash will decide which team books a place in the tournament’s group stage.
This is FC Goa’s first appearance in Asian competition since their landmark 2021 AFC Champions League campaign, where they became the first Indian club to feature in the group stage. The Gaurs earned their berth in this year’s qualifiers by winning the Kainga Super Cup last season.
Their opponents, Al Seeb, arrive with a strong pedigree. The Omani giants have clinched the Oman Professional League title in each of the past two seasons and made history in 2022 by winning the AFC Cup — the only Omani club ever to do so.
For FC Goa, tonight’s fixture is both a stern challenge and a golden chance to extend their continental journey in front of their home supporters. In their previous Asian campaign, they earned three hard-fought draws against powerhouses like Al Rayyan, Al Wahda, and Persepolis FC.
