PANAJI: FC Goa’s senior team, captained by Sandesh Jhingan, has agreed to take a pay cut in response to financial challenges arising from the delayed Indian Super League season. The ISL, originally scheduled to begin in November, has been postponed to February, placing strain on clubs across the country.
The decision extends beyond players to the club’s technical and support staff, who have also agreed to reduced remuneration. FC Goa highlighted the gesture in a post on X, describing it as a demonstration of unity and commitment during uncertain times for Indian football.
“In a moment of real uncertainty for Indian football, our club had honest and difficult conversations about the challenges we are facing. What followed was something that made us incredibly proud,” the club said. “Our First Team players and Technical Staff stepped forward, stood together and chose to support the club by agreeing to reduce their remuneration during this period.”
FC Goa expressed gratitude for the team’s spirit, emphasizing that the club’s identity extends beyond on-field results. “These moments remind us that this club is more than results on the pitch, it is about people, belief, and standing together when it matters most. Thank you for fighting for the badge,” the statement added.
The squad includes other notable Indian footballers such as Udanta Singh and Boris Singh. Earlier this month, Bengaluru FC owner Parth Jindal had called on players to make sacrifices to navigate financial constraints caused by the delayed ISL, warning that without player support, the club could face severe consequences.
FC Goa’s move underscores the collaborative spirit of Indian footballers in supporting their clubs during financially difficult periods, prioritizing the team and the sport over individual gains.
