PONDA: Ensuring safe and hygienic food for Goans remains a top priority, said Health Minister Vishwajit Rane. The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), along with the Ponda Municipal Market Inspector, conducted an inspection at the Ponda Fish Market to check sanitation and hygiene standards.
During the inspection, multiple deficiencies were observed, including unclean flooring with foul odour, clogged wastewater drainage, accumulation of empty fish crates, inadequate lighting and ventilation, and the need for overall maintenance and painting.
As part of proactive measures, the FDA collected 15 surveillance samples of fish from the market and sent them for laboratory testing to ensure food safety and compliance with health standards.
Directions were also issued for immediate cleaning, proper drainage of liquid waste, removal of dumped materials, fumigation and pest control, and provision of covered dustbins to maintain a hygienic environment.
“Sampling and strict monitoring are key to safeguarding public health. We will act promptly to ensure clean and safe food environments across Goa,” said Minister Vishwajit Rane.
