MARGAO: As part of its ongoing efforts to ensure safe and hygienic food practices across the state, the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), Goa, conducted a re-inspection drive in Salcete taluka on June 17 to verify compliance by food business operators (FBOs) previously issued notices for deficiencies.
During the inspection, Janta Hotel located on Old Railway Road was found to have rectified most of the earlier shortcomings. However, officials observed the use of colour in one of the food items, which is not permitted. The Food Business Operator (FBO) was instructed to discard the coloured food product immediately and ensure full compliance moving forward.
In contrast, Bhakshi Hotel at Khareband, Salcete, had failed to address any of the deficiencies cited during an earlier inspection conducted on June 9. Consequently, the FDA imposed a penalty of ₹20,000 under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act.
The manufacturing unit of Dalima Bakery at Colva was also re-inspected and found to be only partially compliant, with several previously highlighted issues still unresolved.
The inspection drive was carried out under the supervision of South Goa Designated Officer Smt. Sanjyot Kudalkar, along with Food Safety Officers Miss Pradiksha Chopdekar, Shri Amardeep Gaude, and Miss Sneha Naik.
The FDA reiterated its commitment to public health and food safety, stating that regular inspections, re-inspections, and enforcement actions will continue across Goa to uphold the highest standards of hygiene and compliance.
