Team Goemkarponn
Morjim: The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) carried out a surveillance drive in Morjim on Wednesday, inspecting 21 food business premises across areas including Vittaldas Wado, Mardewada, and Madlawada.
During the inspection, four establishments were ordered to shut down due to unhygienic conditions, while all remaining premises were served improvement notices and directed to rectify deficiencies within 14 days.
The FDA team also compounded two cases, imposing fines of ₹2,000 and ₹3,000 respectively for the use of newspapers in wrapping food items, a violation of food safety regulations.
Officials noted that frequent surprise checks have led to increased awareness among food business operators, many of whom were reportedly seen awaiting the inspection team proactively.
The inspection was carried out by a team comprising Richard Noronha, Yogita Sirsat, Bhakit Walke, Ram Dhuri, Amit Mandrekar, and Lenin De Sa, under the supervision of FDA Director Shweta Desai.
