MAPUSA: A team from the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), comprising Designated Officer Richard Noronha, Safia Khan, and Amit Mansrekar, under the guidance of Director Shweta Dessai, conducted surveillance checks on eateries across Taleigao Market, Panjim, Calangute, Baga, and Mapusa.
The objective of the drive was to verify compliance with FDA norms at outlets previously inspected. A total of four outlets in Taleigao and Panjim were checked. Notably, Bangalore Bakery in Taleigao Market was fined ₹10,000 for violations.
In Calangute, an outlet operated by Ashadul Mulla was fined ₹8,000 for non-compliance with FDA directives and was instructed to cease operations.
At Baga Beach, street vendors were inspected, and cut fruits kept for sale in unhygienic conditions were destroyed on the spot. Additionally, the outlet M/s Ambika Cold Drinks was ordered to shut down due to unhygienic practices.
Vendors near Alankar were also re-inspected, and corrective measures were recommended, especially in light of the approaching monsoon season.
