MAPUSA: In the vibrant streets of Mapusa, a series of crackdowns by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has left nine food stalls near Alankar Theater in shambles as their unhygienic conditions and blatant disregard for food safety standards came under scrutiny. These raids were a part of a broader initiative aimed at ensuring that food vendors in public spaces adhere to minimum hygiene and safety standards.
FDA officials conducted thorough inspections, revealing a dismal state of affairs at these stalls. They found that food preparation and storage practices were grossly inadequate, with raw materials not handled properly and excessive use of food coloring being common. Moreover, the premises were marred by stagnant water and a complete absence of sanitary certifications among stall owners. This was not the first such crackdown; similar raids had occurred in the past, with some stalls reopening shortly after being shut down.
The FDA has issued stern warnings to the affected vendors, stating that non-compliance with safety regulations would result in permanent closure. This move underscores the FDA’s relentless pursuit of maintaining public health standards in food services.
