Panaji: In a bid to strengthen food safety and hygiene standards, the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) conducted a special surveillance drive in the Tiswadi taluka, targeting food establishments in Caranzalem and Miramar.
As part of the inspection, FDA officials surveyed a total of 22 establishments, including bakeries, restaurants, fast food outlets, and meat shops. Shockingly, 11 of these premises were directed to immediately cease operations after serious hygiene lapses were detected.
The violations included the absence of mandatory sanitary cards for staff, poor pest control measures, and critical structural deficiencies. Officials said the decision to shut down operations was taken to prevent any public health risks.
“The crackdown is part of our ongoing efforts to enforce food safety norms and protect consumers from unsafe food practices,” said an FDA official involved in the operation.
The department has confirmed that similar surveillance drives will be extended to other parts of Tiswadi, including Taleigao, Miramar, and Caranzalem, in the coming days to ensure compliance with statutory food safety regulations.
