Team Goemkarponn
MAPUSA: In a continued effort to ensure food safety, the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) team, under the guidance of Director Shweta Dessai, conducted extensive evening surveillance drives at the Mapusa Sub Yard (Canca Verla), Calangute, and Canca Market.
The team, comprising Richard Noronha, Sneha Gaude, Sujata Shetgaonkar, Amit Mandrekar, and Lenin de Sa, inspected 14 premises during the operation. Six surveillance samples of bananas were collected from the Mapusa Yard for testing.
In a significant seizure, the FDA detained a stock of misbranded confectionery falsely labelled as chocolate from a major distributor. Samples have been sent for laboratory analysis.
Further, four restaurants—two each in Calangute and Canca—were directed to shut down operations due to non-compliance with hygiene and safety norms. One establishment, Walke Express, was fined ₹20,000 for operating under unhygienic conditions.
The FDA has reiterated its commitment to strict enforcement and routine checks to protect public health and ensure compliance with food safety standards.
