MARGAO: The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) carried out a routine inspection drive in Salcete taluka on June 3, uncovering several cases of unhygienic practices and unlicensed food operations. The inspections were part of the department’s ongoing mission to ensure access to safe and hygienic food for all citizens in Goa.
During the drive, a bakery unit in Nuvem was found preparing pav under extremely unhygienic conditions and was operating without a valid license. Two restaurants in Loutlim were also found in unsanitary conditions and lacked necessary licensing.
In a separate case, a catering unit was flagged for multiple hygiene violations including a leaking soakpit, uneven flooring, damaged walls and tiles, open storage of food, and unlabelled food items. Another retail outlet was caught selling snacks that were being prepared at the shop owner’s unlicensed residence.
Officials also inspected a second catering unit where food preparation was taking place on an open rooftop, raising serious food safety concerns.
Inspection reports were submitted to the concerned Food Business Operators (FBOs), who have been directed to comply with the Food Safety and Standards regulations.
The inspections were conducted by South Goa Designated Officer Sanjyot Kudalkar, accompanied by Food Safety Officers Madhav Kavlekar and Pradiksha Chopdekar.
The FDA has reiterated its commitment to enforcing strict food safety norms and protecting public health across the state.
