MAPUSA: The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has intensified its monitoring of Food Business Operators (FBOs) across the State, with surprise inspections and revisits to units checked over the past six months.
During the drive, seven units were penalised with fines and immediate closures for non-compliance. Chicken shops operating without mandatory registration in Housing Board, Mapusa, were fined between ₹10,000 and ₹20,000 by the Designated Officer, North Goa.
In addition, two sweet manufacturers were directed to suspend operations, while farsan items worth ₹30,000, allegedly sourced from Banda, Maharashtra without proper labelling, were detained.
The FDA said it is maintaining a strict vigil on sweet manufacturers and fruit wholesale vendors, while random checks on food-laden vehicles at interstate borders are also underway to prevent violations.
The inspection team comprised Richard Noronha, Lenin De Sa, Amit Mandrekar, Darlan Diukar and MTS Sandeep Shelke, working under the guidance of Director Shweta Dessai.
