PANAJI: In a significant move to strengthen food safety at the grassroots level, the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) Goa organized a dedicated registration camp for 145 Anganwadi Centres in the Bardez block, bringing them formally under the ambit of FSSAI registration.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure that nutrition provided to children and mothers through Anganwadis adheres to safe and hygienic standards. It follows the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India’s (FSSAI) recent decision to waive registration fees and create a special Kind of Business (KoB) category exclusively for Anganwadi Centres, allowing for a streamlined process and a five-year license.
Speaking on the occasion, FDA officials highlighted the importance of such camps in building a robust nutrition ecosystem anchored in hygiene and compliance. “Our goal is to ensure that every Anganwadi Centre in Goa operates under FSSAI norms, safeguarding the health of women and children,” they stated.
As part of the camp, Anganwadi workers received hands-on training on hygiene and sanitation practices critical to food handling. These awareness sessions are designed to empower frontline workers, equipping them with the knowledge and tools to maintain food safety standards in their respective centres.
Officials confirmed that more such camps will be conducted across the state to ensure full coverage. The registration and training drive not only aligns with national nutrition and health missions but also underlines Goa’s commitment to proactive grassroots governance and public health protection.
