PANAJI: In a major action to ensure safe and hygienic food for every Goan, the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) conducted a surveillance-led operation targeting a suspicious milk product supplier operating between Patradevi and Porvorim.
Acting on intelligence inputs gathered during routine inspections, the FDA team intercepted a vehicle at Patradevi around 1:30 AM and seized approximately 700 kilograms of unlabelled paneer and other milk products with tampered manufacturing dates.
Subsequent inspection at the supplier’s Porvorim outlet uncovered large-scale repackaging of paneer under fake Mumbai-based labels and revealed unhygienic handling conditions.
The FDA has since ordered the immediate shutdown of the unit for a detailed investigation. Officials noted that the adulterated products were being distributed to several major food businesses across the state.
Later in the day, FDA teams also carried out surprise inspections along the Calangute–Baga stretch, taking action against unauthorized breakfast vendors operating without proper licenses or hygiene standards.
The department stated that these strict enforcement measures demonstrate its zero-tolerance policy towards food adulteration and unsafe food practices, reaffirming the government’s commitment to public health and consumer safety in Goa.
