MAPUSA: As part of its ongoing efforts to safeguard public health, the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) of Goa conducted a comprehensive inspection of nine food-related establishments in and around the Mapusa area, resulting in the closure of two units for serious non-compliance.
The inspection drive covered three manufacturers of farsan, sweets, and chips; one catering service; and five fruit vendors operating in Madel Thivim, Karaswada, and the Mapusa yard.
Following the inspections, one manufacturer and a caterer were ordered to shut down operations immediately due to major food safety violations. Two additional manufacturers were served improvement notices and instructed to address identified lapses to continue their operations.
In a parallel move, FDA officials collected multiple fruit samples from vendors for further laboratory analysis to detect any possible health hazards.
The drive was led by FDA officers Richard Noronha, Amit Mandrekar, and Darlan Diukar, under the direction of FDA Director Shweta Dessai. Officials confirmed that surveillance at the Mapusa yard remains ongoing to prevent any compromise in food quality.
“We are committed to ensuring that all food consumed by the people of Goa is safe and meets the highest hygiene standards,” said Director Dessai.
The FDA has reiterated its commitment to regular checks and swift action against violators to maintain a safe food ecosystem in the state.
