CALANGUTE: In a stringent enforcement drive, officials from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have shut down three illegal biryani base kitchens and taken action against two other food-related units in the coastal belt of Goa.
The crackdown was carried out by FDA officials Richard Noronha, Rajaram Patil, Amit Mandrekar, and Nousin Mulla.
The base kitchens, operating out of unlicensed and unhygienic shanty premises in Nagoa and Calangute, were found supplying biryani to various retail outlets in the region. All three were ordered to immediately cease operations.
In a related inspection, a retail cashew nut shop in Calangute was directed to stop the sale of cashew products after officials confiscated 50 kilograms of substandard quality nuts from the outlet.
Furthermore, a wholesale unit distributing packaged drinking water without the mandatory FSSAI license was also ordered to shut down. The packaged water, sourced from a manufacturer in Maharashtra, has been sent for laboratory analysis to assess its quality and safety.
The FDA has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public health by taking strict action against food businesses operating without proper licenses and failing to meet hygiene standards.
