QUEPEM: In a firm move to uphold food safety standards across Goa, the South Goa Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) conducted surprise inspections at a sweet mart and a sweet manufacturing unit in Quepem taluka, uncovering serious hygiene violations.
During the raids, officials found 60 kilograms of mawa (milk solids) valued at ₹16,200 stored without proper labelling or packaging, and in unsanitary conditions.
This unlabelled stock was detained and destroyed on the spot. Further inspection of the sweet manufacturing unit revealed it was operating in extremely unhygienic conditions, posing a significant risk to consumer health.
Additionally, the team discovered 15 kilograms of expired mawa, valued at ₹4,050, being used in production. This too was immediately seized and destroyed.
As a result, the FDA has ordered the closure of the sweet manufacturing unit until it meets the required hygiene and safety standards. An inspection report has been issued to the Food Business Operator (FBO), who has been directed to submit a compliance report for verification before any resumption of operations.
The inspection team included Senior Food Safety Officer Rajiv Korde, along with Food Safety Officers Kum. Priya Komarpant and Kum. Swapnil Fatarpekar.
The FDA has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safe and healthy food for all citizens and has urged all food establishments to strictly follow food safety norms or face stringent legal action.
