MAPUSA: In a significant enforcement action aimed at protecting public health, the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has ordered the immediate closure of the well-known Walke Hotel located in Mapusa. The decision came following a routine inspection by FDA officials, who discovered serious violations of hygiene and food safety standards on the premises.
According to sources within the FDA, the inspection revealed unhygienic conditions in the kitchen and storage areas, including improper food handling practices and lack of basic cleanliness. The lapses were deemed severe enough to pose a direct risk to consumer health.
“The action was taken in the interest of public safety. We observed multiple breaches of food safety protocols, and such conditions are unacceptable,” an FDA official stated.
The closure order reflects the FDA’s ongoing commitment to enforcing food safety regulations across the state. Authorities reiterated that there will be zero tolerance for establishments that compromise on hygiene and endanger the health of the public.
Residents and frequent visitors to the establishment expressed shock at the news, with some welcoming the FDA’s proactive steps. “It’s good to know that the authorities are keeping a check. We rely on such places for our daily meals,” said a local customer.
The FDA has urged all food business operators in Goa to strictly adhere to food safety norms and maintain hygiene as per the Food Safety and Standards Act.
Further inspections across various food establishments are expected in the coming days as part of the department’s intensified statewide drive.
