NAVELIM: Acting on a complaint regarding unhygienic conditions at local food joints, the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) conducted a surprise inspection in Navelim, Salcete, leading to the immediate shutdown of one fast food centre and notices issued to three others.
FDA officials inspected four establishments and found multiple violations related to food safety and hygiene. While three premises were served inspection reports and granted a five-day window to rectify the deficiencies, one outlet was ordered to close operations on the spot due to severe breaches of public health regulations.
According to the FDA, the shuttered outlet was found to be operating in extremely unhygienic conditions. Authorities also flagged the absence of valid sanitary cards for employees and noted that the premises were being used for unauthorized residential purposes—both serious violations under food safety norms.
“The FDA team responded promptly and with due diligence. Their action reflects a continued commitment to safeguarding public health and maintaining strict food safety standards in Goa,” said a spokesperson for the agency.
The FDA has warned that continued surveillance will be maintained in the region and that errant establishments will face stringent legal consequences if they fail to comply with the Food Safety and Standards Act.
This action forms part of the agency’s broader initiative to ensure that food served across the state meets hygiene and safety benchmarks, especially in public-facing outlets.
