PANAJI: The Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), Goa, intensified its surveillance operations this week, cracking down on food establishments in Tiswadi and Bardez talukas for failing to meet food safety and hygiene standards.
The FDA inspection team visited multiple locations including Agacaim, Bella Vista Sangolda, Mapusa, and Assagao.
The drive led to the immediate closure of several eateries, with officials citing unhygienic conditions and lack of regulatory compliance.
In Agacaim, Hyderabadi Dum Biryani, operated by Mushimulla, was directed to shut down due to unsanitary practices and operating without a valid Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) license.
In Bella Vista Sangolda, two cloud kitchens—IF Caféand Bong Appetite—were found operating in severely unhygienic conditions, with notable structural deficiencies. Both units were ordered to suspend operations immediately.
Further inspections in Mapusa resulted in the closure of a kitchen run by Ibrahim Walki under the name M/s Food Adda. In Assagao, Raju Fast Food and a Dum Biryani outlet were also instructed to cease operations.
Raju Fast Food was additionally penalized with a fine of ₹5,000 for health violations.
FDA officials stated that these actions were taken in the interest of public health and emphasized the importance of adherence to hygiene norms.
Follow-up inspections are underway at previously visited locations to ensure compliance.
The operation was led by FDA officials Richard Noronha, Lenin De Sa, Amit Mandrekar, and Darlan Diukar, under the direction of FDA Director Shweta Desai.
