Team Goemkarponn
MAPUSA: A bakery and sweet manufacturing unit in Gausa Waddo was ordered to shut down operations after it was found functioning in extremely unhygienic conditions during a surprise inspection by the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA).
The inspection was conducted by an FDA team comprising officers Richard Noronha, Amit Mandrekar, and Lenin De Sa.
Out of the three units inspected, one was found violating basic hygiene and safety standards. As a result, officials ordered the immediate suspension of its operations.
In addition, the unit’s affiliated retail outlet — a well-known name in the area — was fined ₹10,000 under Section 69 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, for failing to comply with food safety norms.
FDA officials confirmed that such inspection drives will continue across the state to ensure compliance and safeguard public health.
Strict action will be taken against establishments that compromise food quality and hygiene.
