ANJUNA: The pitbull that killed a 7-year-old boy in Anjuna last week has been given to a Siolim-based non-profit dog care facility.
The horrifying incident had happened as the youngster went with his mother to her job.
The homeowner’s pitbull pet suddenly sprang at the child while he was inside the house helping his mother out with household chores. The boy was brutally attacked by the dog, and he subsequently passed away from his wounds at the Goa Medical College Hospital in Bambolim.
Abdul Kader Khwaja, the dog’s owner, was subsequently detained in relation to this incident and given a 14-day remand order by a Mapusa court.
The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AHVS) granted custody of the pitbull involved in the child’s death upon receiving a request to do so. The dog was then given to a canine care shelter in Siolim that is maintained by an NGO.
The deceased boy’s father, Premanand Kalangutkar, described the pitbull attacking his son, tearing at his face and crushing his throat. He added that the same pitbull had earlier attacked another child, who fortunately survived.
Reports say that although the owner of the pit bull had warned the deceased boy’s mother about its aggressive nature, she left the dog free and unattended.
